Scientists confirm there is more than meets the eye

A new report from scientists at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution confirms what many have suspected, an enormous oil plume in the water column “that is at least 22 miles long and more than 3,000 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico”.

A satellite image of oil visible on the surface in late June (the oil appears as silvery ribbons). Leading researchers and scientists now believe a significant amount of oil remains below the surface in enormous plumes.
